History of Gangtok:

Gangtok was a small village until the mid-19th century when the Namgyal dynasty made it their capital. Later, it became a major stopover on the trade route between Tibet and India. After India gained independence in 1947, Sikkim became a protectorate of India, and in 1975, it was annexed by India and became a state.
